Starting an Irish company remotely: where a business address fits
If you are planning an Irish company while working elsewhere, an address service can help organise correspondence. It is one part of the setup, alongside company officers, filings and the company’s wider obligations.
Separate the company setup into practical decisions
Start by identifying the company type, proposed name, business activity, directors, secretary and shareholders. Then establish a suitable registered office and a process for receiving official correspondence. Use the CRO’s current guidance to understand the formation documents and obligations that apply.
An address provider supplies the agreed address service. Unless separately agreed, it does not form the company, appoint officers or manage all future filings.
Your registered office needs to be in Ireland
The CRO requires a physical Irish registered office that supports postal and hand delivery and relevant document inspection requirements. A virtual business address can be useful only where the actual arrangement meets the requirements for your intended use.
Confirm the allocated address and written permission before using it for incorporation. If the provider shares the full address after purchase, plan the filing after allocation and confirmation.
Check the director requirements early
Irish company director requirements include an EEA-resident-director rule, subject to available exceptions and arrangements described by CRO. A mailing address does not establish a director’s residence or satisfy those rules on its own.
If your directors live outside the EEA, review the current CRO guidance and discuss the appropriate route with a professional adviser before filing.
Build a reliable correspondence routine
Choose an authorised person to receive forwarded post and maintain the forwarding destination. Decide how official letters will be escalated to your directors, secretary or accountant. Keep records of important correspondence and actions taken.
If your company is newly formed, make sure the address provider has its final company name and registration details. A mismatch between the mail recipient and the service agreement can lead to avoidable delivery problems.
Address services have practical limits
An address alone does not guarantee company incorporation, a bank account, tax registration or a particular tax residence. Banks and public bodies apply their own requirements. A virtual address also should not be assumed eligible as a Google Business Profile location where your business does not actually operate.
Before purchasing
- Confirm your intended use and the address’s suitability.
- Ask which authorised TCSP partner will deliver the service.
- Review the annual price, forwarding terms, renewal and cancellation.
- Understand what documents are needed for onboarding.
- Agree the correspondence process with the people responsible for the company.
